Workshop Biomedical Ontology in Action
November 8, 2006 - Baltimore - Maryland - USA
Official
Website
This workshop aims at bringing together researchers from a broad range of fields that are related to formal ontology and medical informatics. The goal is to show how current research can be brought to bear on the practical problems associated with the development of applications supported by these ontologies, i.e., to show biomedical ontology "in action".
Some pointers
In the following, some projects/resources mentioned in the various talks:
- Diagnoses for Intensive Care Evaluation (DICE) Terminologic System: It enables for structured and standardized registration of diagnoses.
- Unified Medical Language System (UMLS): NLM's Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) project develops and distributes multi-purpose, electronic "Knowledge Sources" and associated lexical programs for system developers. Researchers will find the UMLS products useful in investigating knowledge representation and retrieval questions.
- National Library of Medicine Long Range Plan 2006-2016
- Whole Genome Association (WGA): With the goal of accelerating the process of identifying genetic and environmental association with human disease, whole genome association studies involve large-scale genotype analysis of subjects who have been extensively characterized in clinical studies..
- ClinicalTrials.gov: It provides regularly updated information about federally and privately supported clinical research in human volunteers. ClinicalTrials.gov gives you information about a trial's purpose, who may participate, locations, and phone numbers for more details.
- PubChem: PubChem provides information on the biological activities of small molecules. It is a component of NIH's Molecular Libraries Roadmap Initiative.
- GenBank
- Semantic Mining: The aim of the Network of Excellence entitled Semantic Interoperability and Data Mining in Biomedicine is to establish Europe as the international scientific leader in medical and biomedical informatics.
- Mouse Genome Informatics: Mouse Genome Informatics (MGI) provides integrated access to data on the genetics, genomics, and biology of the laboratory mouse.
- WikitionaryZ Project
- LinKBaseŽ: it is an expansive medical knowledge base that provides the "intelligence" used by all L&C applications.
- FrameNet: The Berkeley FrameNet project is creating an on-line lexical resource for English, based on frame semantics and supported by corpus evidence.
